No, it is not legal unless their parents allow it. They are not yet an adult.
When children turn 18, they can leave home and are technically adults for whom the parent no longer has legal responsibility.
In Louisiana, a person can leave home without being considered a runaway once they reach the age of 18. Until then, they are under their parents' legal guardianship and can be reported as a runaway if they leave home without permission. So, buckle up and wait until you hit that magical age before you make a run for it!
In Louisiana, the legal age of majority is 18, which means that individuals under the age of 18 are considered minors. Generally, minors are required to have parental consent to leave home. If a 17-year-old leaves home without permission, legal consequences could include being classified as a runaway. It's advisable for minors to seek guidance from a trusted adult or legal professional before making decisions to leave home.
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: LOUISIANA My question is: Why are answer's given on this site "not" verified first? I must say that I am VERY disappointed in the answers given to 17 yr olds on here by Senior Members. Every State is different. Louisiana may be 18 for the age of majority BUT, it is 17 for the age of license. As a legal term of art, "license" means "permission", and it can implicate a legally enforceable right or privilege. I know FROM experience that the age is 17! I live in Louisiana and I left home at 17 and my father called the police. But the police told my father and I that they could do NOTHING. I am 50 now, but I recently in the last month called the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Dept and asked what was the legal age in the State of Louisiana for a child to leave home and it is STILL 17. So, please check with the police dept in each state to find out the legal age someone can leave home. Some of these kids have good reason's for wanting to move out and they need to be told the correct answer. If for some reason that you doubt what I say, then please feel free to call the sheriff dept at 225-389-5000 and they will confirm what I say.

The state of Louisiana does not have a law that states the age in which a child can be left home alone. However it is never recommended that a child under age 12 be left home alone for any period of time.

In Louisiana, there is no specific legal age requirement for leaving children home alone. However, it is recommended that children under 12 years old should not be left at home without adult supervision. Parents should use their judgment to determine when their child is mature enough to be left alone.
