Legend says that on the night before he was to be executed, St. Valentine sent a note of friendship to the daughter of the jailer, whom Valentine had befriended during his time in prison. In St. Valentine's day, the Emperor was having trouble finding people for the army because so many men were getting engaged and married. He was later put to death for his actions. Some believe St. Valentine actually sent the very first Valentine's Day card. While locked up in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with the jailer's daughter. Before his death, it is said that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine.'
