Here is a more accurate definition taken from political science James Danziger:
"Ideological parties hold major programmatic goals (e.g., egalitarianism, ethnic solidarity, Islamic fundamentalism) and are deeply committed to the implementation of these goals to achieve comprehensive changes in the sociopolitical order. Ideological parties are usually extreme within the context of their particular political culture." Examples include the American Libertarian Party, North Korean Communist Party, and the German Green Party.
In America, we are well established with pragmaticparties which are oriented towards incremental or moderate policy change, hold more flexible goals, and will either shift or expand their positions and platforms to appeal to voters. Obviously, the Democratic and Republican parties practice this behavior.
The Communist Party, which is based on the ideology of communism and seeks to establish a classless society where the means of production are owned by the community as a whole, is an example of an ideological party.
Ideological Control is a concept introduced by the Marxists. It means to control someone not physically, but mentally, in a subtle, sub-conscious manner. You are not aware you are ideologically controlled, as it is everything that surrounds you. The only way to prevent this form of ideological control would be a complete communist revolution.
Let's ask a disinterested third party. Maybe the third party will be more fun, tonight.
Robert Byrd was a member of the Democratic Party.
Yes, but the majority party (not of congress- just what is considered the majority party according to laws) is determined by the executive branch aka the president. The most recent example, while Bush was still in office the democrats took control of Congress, but the majority party of the country was still considered Republican. Currently our President (Obama) as well as the majority of Congress are Democrat but if at their next election Congress shifts to a majority of Republicans the country's majority party would still be considered the Democrats, because of the presidentAdded: The initial answer is incorrect. The majority party in Congress is ALWAYS the numerically superior party, regardless of WHO the President is. The President has nothing whatsoever to do with naming the majority party, the voters decide who it will be by putting more members of one party in office, rather than the other.
