Ideological Control is a concept introduced by the Marxists. It means to control someone not physically, but mentally, in a subtle, sub-conscious manner. You are not aware you are ideologically controlled, as it is everything that surrounds you. The only way to prevent this form of ideological control would be a complete communist revolution.
Some of the types of slave control used in the Caribbean included physical punishment such as whipping, branding, and use of restraints like chains. Other methods included psychological control through fear tactics, surveillance, and restrictions on movement. Additionally, slave codes and harsh laws were enforced to suppress any resistance or disobedience.

Here is a more accurate definition taken from political science James Danziger:"Ideological parties hold major programmatic goals (e.g., egalitarianism, ethnic solidarity, Islamic fundamentalism) and are deeply committed to the implementation of these goals to achieve comprehensive changes in the sociopolitical order. Ideological parties are usually extreme within the context of their particular political culture." Examples include the American Libertarian Party, North Korean Communist Party, and the German Green Party. In America, we are well established with pragmaticparties which are oriented towards incremental or moderate policy change, hold more flexible goals, and will either shift or expand their positions and platforms to appeal to voters. Obviously, the Democratic and Republican parties practice this behavior.

They also held deep-rooted racist beliefs that justified the subjugation of African Americans. This ideological and economic combination led to strong opposition to abolition.
