Help! I am an Indian with an accent problem. I have a mixture between a British and American pronunciation of words with a slight hint of Indian pronunciation of words! I find it more natural to express myself in this accent but I want to change?
Yes. This may sound pretty odd and maybe even made up to some, but I am an Indian with an Indian, American and British accent combined. It mostly sounds quite American, but you will definitely see some indian accent hidden in there, and certain words I pronounce, are completely the way English people do. So it's generally all about pronounciation but I want a consistent accent, of course I will definitely be forced to change it everytime I am in India but I want an accent that would stick and actually look normal to the rest of the world and not be a jumbalaya between 3 different cultures. Does anyone have tips on how I can improve this naturally? Like I did when I was a kid? I cannot seem to get rid of it of the mixture as sometimes I can pronounce a word like "can't" like the british way "caan't" or sometimes the American way (Caen't) however, how do I conciously keep it consistent to just one? It was so much easier when I was a kid but now its all over the place and my most comfortable of expressing myself is letting it swing whichever way it does and it generally swings between 70% American, 25% british and 5% Indian. How do I make it 100% one accent without it sounding fake? Now if you are curious as to how this even happened to me, first of all, I played a lot of online games as a kid on Xbox. A lot, and I had mostly only foreign friends, and they were generally American. When I listened to the way they spoke English, I became obsessed with pronouncing every word I speak in English, in the "correct" way. Therefore I started developing an American accent. My sister has lived in London for years and has a daughter too, so both of them as you cab guess, have a British accent, and I picked up on some of the things they said just because I thought it sounded clear and pleasant to listen to. Don't get me wrong though, I am perfectly fine with my native Indian Accent, and I infact do speak in a regular Indian accent when I am talking to Indians while in India, because people in India... Tend to judge you a lot because most people in India "fake it" or actually develop it at a much older age, so it can be kind of offensive as well.
Hey! I'm originally from Pakistan, and I have a good English speaking accent, however if you listen to it, you can tell it's not American. Here are some stuff I recommend doing, my accent is slowly perfecting by doing this:

Listen to podcasts. Ear training can really affect your accent, you won't even notice it. Podcasts are just people with mostly good, developed accents talking for hours on end. These are easily accessible, take advantage of that.

Be around the right people. In a study, a few American/British scientists were sent to Antarctica. It was found that these scientists, after a year there, had started pronouncing vowels differently because of the German researchers living with them there.

I can only assume you live in India, so instead of that, why not find American friends online? It seems you have already done so, but I recommend joining the Discord server called English, you'll be able to easily find it, there are English experts there and they are more than welcome to help you.
- Listen to people pronounce vowels. Go and search people pronouncing individual vowels. Do your best to mimic them till it's perfect. You need patience for this!
