Just outside of Houston Texas, down highway 59, is what used to be a small rural town called Sugarland. The name is a reflection of the main industry of the time - a sugar mill and refinery owned by Imperial Pure Cane Sugar. While the company is still headquartered their, the refinery has long since been closed. The band, Sugarland, adopted the name from this city because the name had a "sweet" sound to it. Catchy and interesting...just like this city that is now booming and one of the fasted growing cities in America. It has many master-planned communities and holds the title of the most fit city for several years running. Forget the Splenda and the Pink Stuff - and just get some sugar!

Who named sugarland how did they get their name?

I know that the name came from the town Sugar Land in Texas. Here is what I found about it: http://ptcchallenge.com/2009/04/sugarland/ This is from that website, it is about half way through the article. "Bush and Nettles met again in 2002 and with songwriter Kristen Hall - she has since left the group - formed Sugarland. Deciding to form a band was less difficult than coming up with a name that felt right and would attract attention. "It's hard to name a band," observes Bush. "You can make a poor decision quickly." The newly formed group got its name from the hometown of an acquaintance. "It kind of fit," Bush says. "One of the great things about this experience is you have to learn to trust yourself. If it feels right, it's right." " This another site that says it is from the town: http://www.theboot.com/2009/04/30/band-name-stories-sugarland/ In an interview they said at the auditions for the instrument players one girl said she was from Sugarland Texas and as soon as she said that they looked at each other and knew that was the perfect name.
