Ni hao ma ? ( how are you ) or Ni zui jin mang ma ? ( have you been busy lately ) or chi fan le ma ? ( literally , have you eaten ? ) although they may sound strange to your ear they are all accepted forms of asking ' how are you ' or how is it going '
It might mean - how is life treating you? It depends on the context to be exact
