When the French settled in Canada, they chose two distinct regions; the province of Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, collectively known as 'Acadia'. In 1760, the British administrators of the Maritimes deported 13,000 or so 'Acadians' to Louisiana.
