The Mien people are a Chinese ethnic group and those who live outside of Asia have this surname, but the "Sae" was attached to the last name of all Mien refugees in Thailand before they emigrated to countries like the U.S.A. or France. Thus the true surname is simply "Yang." However, due to language barriers, even "Yang" was not correctly spelled by the Thai government, perhaps due to the fact of fellow refugees, the Hmong people, having the last name, "Yang." "Yaangh" is the true spelling for those who are Mien with this last name, and is pronounced like the english word "young."

Koreans may also have the name Saeyang.
