His/her/its are singular, their is plural. Often, if the speaker or writer does not know whether a person is male or female, they (sic) use their in the singular as non-sexist usage. Further Examples * Would any boy who did not understand raise his hand. * Would any girl who who did not understand raise her hand. * Would all those who did not understand raise their hands. * Would anyone who did not follow the explanation raise their [that, is his or her]hand.
