Just because the mattresses are discounted, does not necessarily mean they are used. If they are used, you do run the risk of purchasing a mattress with stains, smells, and possibly bedbugs. However, if they are new mattresses that are simply discounted for manufacture's quirks- they will be completely sanitary. Just make sure you ask the sales representative for the reason it is being discounted and you should be just fine.
I don't know why someone would want a chicken in their mattress. It would make your mattress lumpy and smell bad.
