Because of the sugar content in even unsweetened cranberry juice, a supplement that contains cranberry extract would be a better idea than juice. Rather than juice, you could feed your dog a small number of fresh cranberries, large amounts can cause diarrhea. Some dogs will eat fresh cranberries, but some will not. Cranberry powder is also available at health food stores that can be sprinkled on your dog's food.

The best thing you could do for your dog, would be to have your vet recommend what kind (and how much) cranberry to use. If you lower pH in your dog's bladder too much, there's an entirely different set of potential problems. These could include bladder stones and other serious problems.

Frequent opportunities to urinate, rather than having your dog "hold it", and providing plenty of fresh clean water are also helpful when treating or preventing a urinary tract infection.

Cranberries aren't a replacement for veterinary care, if your dog doesn't show an improvment in a 2-3 days, it's time to see the vet.
