Do possums live in Massachusetts

No. Possums, which are quite different to opossums, live in New Guinea, Australia (including Tasmania), Sulawesi (Indonesia) and a few other small islands in the Pacific region. Although not native to New Zealand, the brush-tailed possum was introduced into that country over a century ago and has subsequently become a pest. However, you will find opossums in Maine.

Yes. I've lived in New Hampshire for all of my 57 years and though I did a lot of camping and hiking when I was young I never saw a possum or known of anybody seeing one in NH. Then one night when I was driving to work--it was about 15 to 20 years ago, a possum crossed the road in front of my car. Since then I've seen many of them, most recently two days ago. They have apparently expanded their range into New Hampshire and are now quite common. Funny looking little creatures.

No. True possums are found only in Australia and some of the nearby islands, such as New Zealand (to which they were introduced from Australia), New Guinea and some Indonesian islands.

However, opossums, which are completely different animals and not related to possums, may be found in Massachusetts. Even though opossums may locally be referred to as possums, this does not make them the same animal.

Yes they do, I live in Rhode Island and we've removed several from my basement.
