Take the motor out of the machine, remove the shroud over the flywheel, remove the bolt holding the flywheel on, I pounded on my ring gear to remove the flywheel. spin it as you pound, after you get the flywheel off put it on a little piece of 2x4 in the center and you can knock the ring gear off the flywheel with a hammer and a drift. When you get the new ring gear put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes and it should fall on the flywheel. I have had to lightly tap them on after warming them.
No, they are a matched machined set.
Take out the transmission and there it is. The flywheel holds the ring gear for the starter. If your ring gear has been obliterated by your starter you have an issue with how the starter engages the fly wheel to begin with. Proper clearances, alignment and securing of your starter will make your trooper whole agian.
Your brakes are getting low and you need to replace them.
The starter drive is shot. Replace the starter and hope the ring gear isn't damaged.
There are two sizes of ring gears on small block chevies. You probably have the starter for the large ring gear but need the starter for the small ring gear.
count your teeth on your ring gear <big gear> and on you pinion <little gear> and the divide the ring gear teeth by the pinion
41 teeth on the ring gear, 10 on the pinion gear.
43 ring gear 14 pinion
These cars came with a 10 bolt, 8.5" ring gear and an optional 12 bolt 8.875" ring gear.
You know what, just because you asked a decent question. I will actually call John Deere and ask them about that, so check back here for an update. Up Date: July 30th, 2009 I called the John Deere Corporate Head Office in the US and spoke to an agent in the licensing department and posed your question to her. As of this date there are no licensed agents producing authorized John Deere navel jewellery or body jewellery. She promised to do some more research into your request and she will get back in touch with me with any updates. Up Date: July 31st, 2009 Check the related links, I have posted a link to access authorized & licensed John Deere jewellery, this link was provided by Joye @ John Deere Corporate Head Office.

If it happens intermittently, it is caused by a broken tooth or teeth on the engine ring gear. Thus when the starter solenoid throws the pinion gear backwards, the pinion and ring gear will not engage. In some rare cases the pinion gear can come off or the solenoid itself fails, yeilding the same result. You can test this by putting the car into gear and moving it slightly to move the ring gear (in some cars). Sometimes opening the drivers door and jumping up and down on the door sill can rock the engine enough to move the ring (again in some cars). The car might start. The only fix for this ultimately is to replace the ring gear.
