Remove the battery. Once it is out of the way you should be able to see a vent hose coming off the top of the transaxle. Remove the hose from the fitting and then unscrew the fitting from the transaxle. This is where you add the oil.
Where is the transmission oil container located?
you can not fill the transmission on a JD 155c, it is sealed.
I believe this has a Peerless 801 transmission, and unless you see leaks where it's parked you may not need to fill it. Overfilling a transaxle can be bad for it. I would check with nearest Jon Deere agency.
There is a plug on the back to the right of the seat behind the axle.
John Deere recommends that you put Low Viscosity Hy-Gard or Hy-Gard Transmission oil in their Hydro or Gear Transmissions. The Low-Vis is used for factory fill in the Hydro and Hy-Gard in the Gear Transmission.

To add oil to the transmission of a John Deere L120, first ensure the mower is on a level surface and the engine is off. Locate the transmission dipstick or fill cap, usually found near the rear of the mower. Remove it, then use a funnel to add the appropriate type of transmission fluid until it reaches the recommended level on the dipstick. Finally, replace the dipstick or fill cap securely before starting the mower.

On a John Deere 2305, the gear oil goes into the differential and transmission housing. You can access the fill plug, typically located on the side of the gearbox, to add oil. It’s important to use the recommended gear oil type specified in the operator's manual, and check the oil level regularly to ensure proper operation.
To check the fluid in a hydrostatic transmission on a Cub Cadet riding mower, first, ensure the mower is on a level surface and the engine is off. Locate the transmission dipstick or fill plug, usually found near the rear of the mower. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it without screwing it in, and then check the fluid level against the marked indicators. If the fluid is low, add the recommended hydrostatic transmission fluid until it reaches the proper level.
there is no way to ck it...transaxle can be removed and the vent removed to fill
