In pioneer days, splinting a broken leg typically involved using sturdy materials such as wooden sticks or boards. The injured leg would be gently immobilized by placing the splints alongside it and then securing them with strips of cloth or rope to prevent movement. Padding, like soft cloth or moss, might be added to provide comfort and reduce pressure on the injury. The splint would be checked regularly to ensure it remained secure and that circulation was not compromised.

Well, from my knowledge, they had a tool called a Leg Splint. It was a wooden thing that would attach to your leg. If you were in need of a leg splint, some would just chop off a tree branch and use that. Many infections and such things as the Leg Splint were what caused disease and other infections. I'm glad we have good medical services and ways to help our legs and NOT use Leg Splints.
You would call that a splint.
