First you have to start by teaching your horse very basic Dressage and systematically working your way up the levels. Passage is en upper level movement and should only be attempted by apprentice trainers under close supervision OR a Dressage Master. Passage is a variation of trot so in theory you would teach all of the different variations of trot first: Collected, Medium, Extended, Piaffe, Passage. These movements can also be taught in hand, but again should only be attempted by skilled hands. Passage can also be displayed by an excited horse in turnout.
