The largest recorded Great White Sharks have approached or exceeded 6.1 meters (20 ft) in length. and an estimated 1,950 kg (4,300 lb) in weight.

There are reports of a 10.9 m (36 ft) great white shark captured in Southern Australian waters in the 1870s, but some question the reliability of the measurement. The 36 footer caught in Australia is now believed to have been a basking shark, which can grow to nearly 40 feet.
