Once your female is ready to breed and starts to breed, you do not just leave them (male and female) together. Once a day is good, some choose two times a day. When the female stops wanting to breed, that is your counting day one! you count 53 to 63 days from there depending on the dog type you have. I had Rottweilers and they were 63 days. Females come in heat every six months, I have had a few come in heat three times in a year. Had one that if not bred would turn around and come in heat the very next month. kind of count it like this.. 7 days to come into heat, 7 days of in heat and breeding and seven days to come all the way out of heat. IF you are not a dog breeder for the good of the breed, spay!

How long do horses stay in heat?

Most mares will come into heat every 21 days. Usually 21 days after the day the mare first comes into heat, she will start into heat again, but some mares vary anywhere from 18 to 31 days in their heat cycles. Heat periods are generally longer earlier in the breeding season and many older mares have longer than average heat cycles.
