The best breed would have to be a schnauzer or a poodle because neither dogs shed and both breeds can come in miniature and toy which is great for apartment living. Also, both dogs are very social dogs.

i have a schnoodle, it is actually a mix of a schnauzer and a poodle and she's a great dog, i would highly recommend getting one but be careful where you get them because some breeders will abuse the mother and father so make sure you schedule a meeting with them where they keep their dogs. Also make sure you meet the parents and discuss health problems with the owners.

AnswerI would recomend the keeshond. These dogs make brilliant family pets because of their sweet nature. I grew up with a keeshond and my sis has really bad asthma and Allergies but never hard a problem with my keeshond. This breed also only needs a short walk a day. They might sould like a breed from heaven but they have two drawbacks. One is their long fur. Though they only shed (bi-)annually (and the fur comes out in clumps which makes for easy cleaning) they need to be groomed daily or every other day. The second issue is... well... they have a tendency to get fat and the intelligent devils know just how to look at you to get you to give them treats. Though super friendly they were originally used as guard dogs on barges so they would work well in guarding the house from strangers (though their not going to attack their going to bark happily saying welcome to my home). Shih tzu and Chihuahuas are great indoor dogs so are yorkies. Brussels griffons and dorgis are too. Carin terriers are great indoor pets to, But i don't know if they good with asthma.

it depends on how old the children are 0 to 5 years you need a small type of dog like a Yorkie or miniature poodle. 5 and older you should get a bigger dog like a corgi or collie. Do some research on the type of dogs you like.

Be careful with children around small dogs. Yorkies and minature poodles aren't tolerant of little children and will bite if the child inadvertantly hurts the dog. Very small children should be around calm natured, tolerant dogs. The size is less important than the temperment.
