To the inexperienced eye, they do share some similarities. They are of similar size and weight and have similar winter/summer coats. They both have horns, but different sizes and shapes. They are mammals of the bovidae family, Gestation periods are similar and herding instincts are the same. The differences are that Muskoxen secrete an odour from which their name derives. Muskox live in Northern Canada and surrounding locations and in the Siberian Peninsula, Yaks live in Asia. The main difference however is in the Muskox scientific classification, Muskox are more closely related to sheep and goats than to oxen
