Tigers usually live in grassy areas, so they can camoflage their stripes with blades of grass. Tigers usually live in hot places, but the earth has to be damp and rich. They are popular in Asia and Africa.

There are actually 9 subspecies of tiger (or Pathera tigris), 3 of which are extinct, and their habitats vary aside from being terrestrial. I'll give some basics on all 6 extant (currently existing) species below:

• Amur Tiger (Pathera tigris altaica) used to be known as the Siberian tiger. It resides primarily in the broadleaf-heavy Amur River region of Russia and enjoys very cold, snowy winters.
• South China Tigers (Pathera tigris amoyensis) is probably extinct in the wild. But in the past it lived in - as the name eludes - the mountainous, forested terrain of southern China.
• The Indonesian Tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti) lives in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and southwestern China. Like the South China tiger, this is a heavily forested, mountainous terrain.
• Malayan Tigers (Panthera tigris jacksoni) live in forests and jungles of Malaysia.
• Sumatran Tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) lives in lowland rainforests.
• Bengal Tigers (Panthera tigris tigris) lives in India, Nepal, and (as the name suggests) Bangladesh. They actually like tropical jungles, brush, marshes, and tall grasslands.
