Dholes are a species of wild dog that live in Asia, hence the name Asiatic wild dog. They can be found from the far east of Russia all the way to the Western Ghats mountains of India and the island of Sumatra. However, there are only about 2,000 left in the wild, and their range is broken up into many separate, small areas. This can lead to inbreeding and, in turn, genetic defects that affect the species as a whole (IE, the cheetah had a period of severe inbreeding, and that has caused the males to have decreased fertility).
