In Genesis 1:27 we read, "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.' The word 'image' is further defined in Genesis 5:1-3 as Adam begets a son in his own image and likeness just as children are born in every generation.

Saying this another way, both man and woman reflect God meaning we are like God in some ways as we are the offspring of God (Acts 17:29). We actually share some of the same characterisitics of our Father God but very limited now. Consider our shape and dominion (rule) we have over the earth, or our ability to think and communicate on a much higher level than animals.

We are humans in the image and likeness of God which is a different 'kind' than all other creatures who were created after their own kind. The false 'theory' of evolution says we evolved from a pond scum and through survival of the most fit, evolved into humans. We could only grunt then. But Genesis states both Adam and Eve were fully developed and capable of naming all the animals, communicate in complete sentences and reason for themselves. Quite a different revelation.

Being made in God's image indicates a future or ultimate purpose for each of us. Perhaps the most unbelievable thing is mankind was created to be of the God kind. Yes, physical now, but God's ultimate desire is that we all accept His authority and become part of His eternal family - His children (John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 6:18).

Just thinking upon the above will cause most all to appreciate this wonderful

gift we have been given - not earned. King David often wondered about this as can be read in Psalm 8, 'When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, WHAT IS MAN that you are mindful of him, And the son of man that you visit him? You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with the glory and honor.'

Why do you think God created us in his own likeness?

We probably do not look like God, I think the 'likeness' referred to is an aesthetic quality. When you look at a landscape and appreciate its beauty, I think God does that too, while I am not sure a dog would appreciate the beauty of the view. We are alike in that we can both create and admire that which has been created.

Is it Biblical that the World Mission Society church of God believes in God the Mother?

We can understand about God the Mother through the Bible. Let us study through the Bible to discover the existence of our God the Mother. Gen. 1:26-27 『Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.』 The above verse states that God has two images-a male image and a female image. Until now, we have only known and called upon the male image of God: "Father." Then how should we call upon the female image of God? Logically, we should refer to God's female image as "Mother." This is why God had said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness."
