To measure for a door handle, first determine the desired height, typically around 36 inches from the floor. Use a measuring tape to mark the position on the door, ensuring it’s centered and level. For drilling, use a template if available to ensure accurate hole placement, then drill the appropriate size hole for the handle and latch according to the manufacturer's specifications. Finally, install the handle and test for proper functionality.
With a tape measure
Here's what I do for modelling... take a tape measure and measure your house door? :)
You are supposed to measure the "rough" opening. This is distance from the studs that line the door opening. (not from the door frame itself) Top to bottom then from side to side. If you already have a door there and are just replacing it then you can just measure the door and get one of the same size. Good luck.
You find a tape measure and take the measurement across the door, then the length of it, then if necessary the thickness.
A complete door consist of subframe, frame, architrave and lock with door handle
use the template that comes with the door handle read the instructions until you understand them measure three times cut once.

To install a handle and deadbolt set on a door, first measure and mark the placement of the hardware. Use a drill to create holes for the handle and deadbolt, then insert and secure the hardware with screws. Test the functionality of the handle and deadbolt before finishing the installation.
Remove the door panel. Drill out the rivets in the exterior handle with a 1/4 drill. Carefully pull the handle out and disconnect the pull rod. Use small bolts and lock nuts to reattach.

You would need to remove the door panel, and disconnect the rods going to the door handle. The you would need to drill the rivits out of the middle of the door handle. I have included an instructional video that shows you how to do this, located below.
It is not too hard. You will have to remove the door panel, then you will see how the interior handle is riveted to the metal door frame work. You will need to drill these rivets out and install the new handle with either rivets or screws.
Drill it out and when replacing use a screw.
Just drill the rivets out and use new rivets to hold the handle in place.
I believe the original handle is riveted on. If so, you can drill out the rivet and use nut's and bolts to reattach.
To replace a front door handle effectively and efficiently, follow these steps: Purchase a new door handle that fits your door. Gather necessary tools such as a screwdriver and measuring tape. Remove the old handle by unscrewing it from the door. Measure and mark the placement for the new handle. Install the new handle according to the manufacturer's instructions. Test the handle to ensure it functions properly.
