Hello.
The Bible is a letter from God and beneficial for teaching and setting things straight according to 2 Timothy 3. 16,17 in the New Testament.
All humans have the need to know about their past, present, and future and the Bible is the only Book that can accurately answer those questions.
Genesis is the first Book in the Bible which teaches the origine of life and what was God's purpose when He created mankind. Genesis 2: 15-17 shows that we were created to take care of our beautiful planet, and live a healthy life forever.
Genesis chapter 3 explains what and why things did not turn out to be so. Why we grow old and finally die.
1 John 5: 19 in the New Testament explains why our world is in such a mess in these words. "We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. The last Book of the Bible Revelation 12: 9 describes the wicked one in these words. " The original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth. The original serpent was the one who promised Eve that she would be like God in Genesis 3: 1-5. Well that did not happen. Did it?
The Bible explains what our future holds with God's coming Kingdom, that Jesus told us to pray for in Matthew 6: 9,10 where God's will, will take place as in heaven also on earth.
The choice is ours. If there is nothing that we can do to change our past, we can choose to secure a fine future for ourself and our loved ones. The Bible reveals that our heavenly Father, Jehovah God deeply loves us and He lets us know what He would like to see us do. Read Micah 6: 8 in the Old Testament, in these words. " He has told you, O man, what is good. And what is Jehovah God requiring of you? Only to exercise justice, and cherish loyalty, and walk in modesty with your God." Will you accept Jehovah's invitation to walk with him and gain the eternal blessings he has in store for those who do? The choice is ours.
Psalms 37: 29 in the Old Testament describes the blessing for all those who accepte Jehovah's invitation, in these words. " The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it. "
The First Book of the Bible, Genesis, shows us why paradise on earth was lost and the Last Book of the Bible, Revelation, shows us how paradise on earth will be regained. Read Revelation 21: 3,4 which shows that pain and death will be no more.
So to answer your question , " Why do people read the Bible" We read the Bible because it helps us the become familiar with our heavenly Father, who has created our wonderful planet, that is packed with life so abundant and varied as to stagger our imagination. That is why Revelation 4: 11 says " You are worthy, Jehovah our God, to receive the glory and the honour and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they came into existence and were created as confimed in the First Book of the Bible in Genesis 1: 1.
