What is the Machining operation that uses a toothed cutting tool to produce shapes inside of a hole?

counter-bore chamfer counter-sink

What is honing process?

Honing is a sort of hole finishing operation performed after drilling. The honing tool is a multipoint cutting tool. There will thin projections parallel to the length of tool extending from one cross section to other. When the tool is inserted into the hole, a loading is given on the cross section of the tool which extends a spring attached to the projections pushing the "abrasive cutting edge" out side and then it is rotated so as to give finishing. This method is generally use in the cylinder of IC engines.. Rough sketch:- ------------------------------ ================= ================= ----------------------------- Dotted arrows show the 2 peripheries of the cutting tool and "equal to sign" shows edges of abrasives. The pushing of spring radially connected to the centre pushes the cutting edge of abrasives out which enables finishing operation

What are the cutting and shaping methods?

How many threads should a bolt engage?

As a general rule, a bolt should engage a distancegreater than or equal to its outer diameter. The number of threads engaged can then be calculated from the number of threads per inch on the bolt. So if you are using a 1/4-20 bolt, meaning it has 1/4" diameter and 20 threads per inch, you should engage the bolt 1/4" into the hole, or 5 threads. (20 threads/inch x 1/4 inches)Why: The shear stress on the threads will be equal to the tensile stress in the shank of the bolt. This means that once you thread the bolt in a distance greater than its diameter, the shank itself will fail before the threads shear off the bolt under tensile load.Sources: Design of Machinery class at Purdue University, page 10 of the following MIT article: http://web.mit.edu/2.75/resources/FUNdaMENTALs%20Book%20pdf/FUNdaMENTALs%20Topic%206.PDF

What are the functionS of a drill press?

-The drill press can take bits of up to 1/2 shank size and many of those are drill bits up to an inch wide. ( it's quite common to have large drills with reduced shanks) -Other items like large hole saws can be used, as well as 'fly cutters', which are cutting bits on the end of a movable beam. These can usually cut holes in thin materials like plexiglass sheet, up to a foot in diameter. Forstner bits up to 6 or 8 inch can be used, these cut large, flat bottomed holes for installing clocks and other instruments. Milling bits can be used to 'mill' large areas of rough surface to smoothness, and 'square hole tools' can also be used. The large drill press is a very versatile tool.

What is the area called that the screw goes into The part with the ribs like that you screw the screw down into...?

The hole that you put a screw into is referred to as a "tapped hole". The rib-like things in the hole are called "threads" or, more specifically, "internal threads" as opposed to the external threads on a screw.

What is the difference between internal flush and full hole thread?

The difference between internal flush and full hole thread is that the roots of the full-hole tool joints are rounded, and the roots for the internal-flush joints are flat.
