I cut the area between my thumb and index finger open the other night with a new knife. The wound is pretty deep and I went to the ER right away. After waiting for 4 hours I decided I would just make an appointment with my family doctor for the next day. When I saw the doctor the following day, she said that stitching the wound up 24 hours after the accident would not help the wound heal. I guess it's already started healing? So they cleaned the wound and told me to keep in covered. Now I'm worried about infection. It's ridiculous, you have to ride an ambulance to the hospital to get any attention.

Can you stitch a cut after 24 hours?

In general, it is not recommended to stitch a cut after 24 hours, as the risk of infection increases and the edges of the wound may not heal properly. Most medical professionals advise that cuts should be stitched within 6 to 12 hours for optimal healing. If a cut is still open after 24 hours, it's best to consult a healthcare provider for appropriate care, which may include cleaning and dressing the wound instead of stitching.

What happens when a stitch re open?

when a stitch re-opens we feel more pain and more amount of blood comes.it is good if you tie up fast before it goes worseAnother answer:Depends on what part of you was sutured. The wound will of course open some, but you can't really re-suture most wounds after the first 12-24 hours or so from injury. So it depends on what the suture was closing. Minor wounds can be kept clean with a light antiseptic and a dressing. More critically placed sutures (closing a surgical chest wound for example) that open into deeper structures, or facial wounds which can scar, should probably be shown to a doctor.

Is it safe to swim with stitches in your head?

For the first 24-36 hours, you should not get your wound wet and should, in fact, try to leave the initial dressing in place. My instructions to patients is this: leave the dressing on for 24 hours. After that 24 hours, you may leave it open, get it wet, even wash it gently with soap and water. Now about swimming, that is usually fine after 36 hours or so. If the wound was complicated to close, you may want to contact your physician first. Regardless of if you swim or not, you should remain watchful for signs of infection: redness, swelling, pain, drainage, or red streaks extending toward the heart from the wound. If you notice any of these, you should contact your physician as soon as possible for a recheck.

Does neosporin seal up an open cut or burn?

During the first 24-48 hours you may use neosporin. After 24-48 hours you would want to keep the stiches dry. Keeping them moist might not allow the wound to heal, or worse, open the wound back up. It's also best not to cover the wound (again after 24-48 hours have passed). Unless your going to be in a situation where dirt/debris may enter the wound, like going to the beach. In this case cover the wound only for the time it is at risk of being exposed to dirt.
