There are differences inside the machines that make the newer machines faster and give better images. There is a difference in how the tests are done now compared to 20 years ago.

For example: older machines might not have seen changes smaller than a marble or a Golf ball. Newer machines may see changes smaller than a pin head and make for earlier detection. Earlier detection is always better.
