Great Britain is the name of an island not a country. Do you mean the UK? The name of the country is 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland', often abbreviated to 'The UK', 'Britain' or 'Great Britain'. During the Great War Britain was allied with France and Russia against Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
They started in 1942.
In Europe, the nations that managed to remain neutral were Sweden, Spain and Switzerland. In Africa, all countries were linked to either Italy, France or Britain so none of them remained neutral. The Latin American countries remained largely neutral. Asian countries were practically all dragged into the war, either because they were invaded by Japan or because they were colonies of Japan or one of the Allied nations.
England did not provide any large-scale assistance to the Confederacy during the Civil War. Blockade-runners did manage to ship some cotton to Britain and smuggle weapons and ammunition into the Confederacy, but England remained neutral throughout the conflict.

France and Britain both confiscated American ships and goods during the Napoleonic times. Great Britain also impressed American seamen and forced them into the British navy. This is because France and Britain were fighting each other. They did not want each other to get goods from America. And Britain was angry that Americans had French help during the American Revolution.
Spain and the US were the belligerents and the rest of the world was neutral.

During the American civil war, the Britain's made a promise to remain neutral. However, they built the Trent, the Alabama, and the Laird shipyard. All three of these were confederate ships.
