In the USA the economy flourished, women learned they could do jobs they had never done before and millions of babies were born after WWII and the Korean War (the baby boom). Industry continued to grow and technology grew by leaps and bounds. The entertainment industry changed when actors were no longer owned by the studios and music (that teens loved) radically changed when rock and roll came along. GI's were given money to go to school and buy homes. So college level educated population rose and so did business. Construction of homes rose. People were able to buy newer cars and many had two cars. Television swept the nation. Nearly every home had one or two phones. People were proud to win the war and the concept of duty to serve the nation continued until the 1960's. The war had taken a toll on the men who fought in WWII. It affected relationship, their ability to work and parent their children. Some marriages ended up in divorce because the VA and the Military failed to fully understand post traumatic stress disorder or learn how to treat it. They did try but their efforts were dismal.

In England people were kept on rationing until 1955. They had hundreds of thousands of homes to build because of the devastation from the bombs. Businesses had to be restored. It took them a decade or more to recover from the war. Changes did come about in some of the same areas as in the USA, like music, clothes, and babies being born.

In Europe the people had to receive aid in all types of ways. Their cities were totally bombed out. They did not have homes, business, food, clothing, medical care or money. It took decades for Europe to recover but they did and eventually thrived.
