Rommel might have done better to follow Kesselring's orders and defend Libya instead of obtaining Hitler's permission to invade Egypt. To break the El Alemein Line required more forces than Rommel ever had at his disposal. Paratroopers might have done it, but he did not have them at First El Alamein. At Second El Alamein, he had the German Ramcke Brigade and Italian Folgore Division, but they were thrown into the trenches to defend rather than attack. An amphibious circumvention of El Alamein was also out of the question, as the British Navy in the Med was too powerful. An interesting question. Malta should have been taken in 1941, and a joint German-Italian-Japanese plan was devised for its capture, but Rommel had their air support pulled for his campaign in North Africa. [Ramcke and Folgore had trained for a jump on Malta.] Instead of the man who could have won the war for the Axis, perhaps Rommel was the man who lost it instead.
The over all commanding general of the afrika corps was GEN Ervin Rommel but as there was many battles at El Alamien that the British and Germans won and lost the question is confuseing
Erwin Rommel was the "Desert Fox" and commanded the 7th Panzer corp in WWII. He fought a number of Battles against the Allied Forces and won many of them. He was credited as being a great Field Marshall in the German Army and won many medals including the Iron Cross. As good as Rommel was, he was never as good as General George C. Patton who was, and still remains the greatest Tank Commander the world has ever seen.....

the union / the north won
Yes. If the South had won, slavery could still exist there today. It's not likely, but it could've happened. Historians also speculate that the border between North and South could have become very much like the border between North and South Korea. Also, if the South had won, the United States would probably never have lasted. If the states saw that any time they disagreed with the Federal Government they could just secede, they would simply leave whenever they felt like it. The states would most likely have become their own countries, each with an extreme dislike for the others. So yes, it is very good that the North won the Civil War.
The North Africa campaign was the British and Americans against the Germans in North Africa. It was won by Britain and America.
