The Enigma was pretty much a complex machine that the British got a hold of. They got it when Germany invaded Poland and someone stole it from one of the deserted U boats and brought it back to Britain. This helped because when Hitler sent commands out to the U boats, Britain will also pick up the command so Britain would be one step ahead of the war plan. The only problem was when Britain found out one of their undefended cities were going to get bombed, they couldn't do anything because they did not want to let the Germans know that they had the Enigma. Otherwise, Britain would use it to find out Germany's plans and use it to attack one the areas that they are not covering.

The German Enigma cipher (encode/decode) machines were used by the Germans in WW2, and secretly the British with assistance from Poles & French began to try to crack these codes when the war started. By 1942, the Enigma cipher was being broken for periods of time. When these codes were broken & read, then the information became known by the British code-word "Ultra".

Was kit Carson a hero or a villain?

Kit Carson was hero because he was probably still the ONLY American that got such a high ranking for someone that could not read or write. He also helped a lot of people even though he turned his back against the Navajo he still helped them.

Why were the British in Dunkirk?

Dunkirk helped get about half a million allied soldiers to safety and off Dunkirk beach. These soldiers were prisoners, and these could then help in the war on land.Let's explain what Dunkirk was first. Dunkirk is a port town in France on the English Channel. After France and Great Britain went to war with Germany they were great defeated by Germanies Bltizkreig or Lightning war. They were pushed back to Dunkirk and forced to retreat back to England. Thousands of British and some French troops crossed the Channel on Civilian and Military warships. This retreat/battle was important beacause it meant Germany had complete control over Europe until they invaded Russia in 1941. After Dunkirk Germany started Operation Sealion (The invasion of England). So it was not so important for the United Kingdom but Germany since the United Kingdom really just lost thousands of men and was forced from direct land combat. Hope this helped.

What did Clarice Cliff do in world war 2?

From what I can tell she married in 1940 and continued with her art. I could not find anything special she may have done but trust me she probably bought War Bonds and helped with the local efforts to help with the war effort. Nearly everyone did back then.

How where the early years of the war a critical time?

early back then the soldiers hadn't a lot of stuff since they got their supplies from the British. and since they were fighting with the British they got all the supplies coming to them cut off and when they went into war most of the soldiers died not of being killed but from sickness and disease. which meant not alot of people could fight.
