The first US flying ace in WW I was Eddie Rickenbacker.
Rickenbacker shot down 26 enemy aircraft in World War I. How many of the pilots were killed is not known, nor is the number of ground troops he might have killed.
Eddie Rickenbacker married his wife, Adelaide Frost, on December 24, 1917. The couple had a total of three children: a daughter named Joan, born in 1919, and two sons, Edward and William, born in the early 1920s. Rickenbacker's family played a significant role in his life, especially during his post-war career and adventures.
