Blitzlreig or lightning war was the way that the Germans took over Norway and France so effectively.
Basically they sent a load of troops and tanks in first causing a distraction.
Then paratroopers were sent over the back to lay on wait.
As soon as the main force had succeeded in pushing the defenders back then the paratroopers were waiting.
The changes in military technologies during World War I, such as the introduction of tanks, machine guns, and chemical warfare, revolutionized combat and significantly increased the scale of destruction. These advancements led to trench warfare, resulting in high casualty rates and prolonged stalemates on the battlefield. Additionally, the war highlighted the need for more advanced logistics and communication systems, which paved the way for future military innovations. Overall, these technological changes fundamentally altered the nature of warfare and set the stage for modern military tactics.
One significant aspect that was NOT a technological innovation in warfare during World War I was the reliance on traditional cavalry units. While many armies began to mechanize and adopt new technologies like tanks and airplanes, cavalry remained a prominent force for reconnaissance and mobility, reflecting the transitional nature of warfare at the time. The effectiveness of cavalry diminished as trench warfare and modern weaponry became dominant, but it was still utilized rather than replaced entirely by technological advancements.
Ultimately, there are more similarities than differences. People still die. Countries still fall apart, and spend a phenomenal amount of money in the process. Objectives change, equipment and tactics change, but war is still war. And most of the victims weren't even fighting it.
