World War I used trench warfare on the western front with French and Britain on one side and the Germans on the other. Trench warfare was used for pure defense because the two sides met at a stalemate. Chemical warfare was also used.

In World War II, Blitzkrieg ("lightning war") was used by the Germans for quick victories. Three steps to this warfare, first fighter planes invade and bombard. Tanks roll in and took down defense lines. Then troops actually occupy the land.

Hope this helps.

Although warfare tactics were quite different in these wars there were certain similarities. Naval power was important and was the sole reason Britain survived against the German behemoth. Also attrition was a factor in both wars. Attrition was the most important part of World War 1. It was also important for the longer campaigns in World War 2 like the Battle of Britain and the Pacific War.

World War I was basically trench warfare for the majority of the war in Europe. Life was horrible in the trenches. There were few tanks and aircraft at the time, and the war in the Pacific was paid little attention to. The U.S. joined late in the war.

World War II was more mobile than World War I. Technology had advanced greatly, allowing for better tanks, aircraft, and warships. The U.S. played a major role in both the European war and the Pacific War. In was also in this war, that the carrier began to be seen as a ship that could change the tide of the war.

Both wars were the same, however, in a few ways. The Germans still used their U-Boats in both wars to starve out Great Britain by sinking her cargo ships. And like all wars, you capture the capital, you capture the country.
