On the side of the Axis Powers the answer is no, it was a war of expansion to get, as Hitler put it "breathing room".
For the Allies (not including USSR and USA) the answer would be maybe, it was a war about alliances to Poland as well as Hitler making a fool of Chamberlain.
For USA and USSR the answer is yes because they were dragged into the war by the aggressor states attacking them. (the question about the use of atomic weapons being justified is another matter)
