Were Japan's actions justified in World War 2?

On the side of the Axis Powers the answer is no, it was a war of expansion to get, as Hitler put it "breathing room".

For the Allies (not including USSR and USA) the answer would be maybe, it was a war about alliances to Poland as well as Hitler making a fool of Chamberlain.

For USA and USSR the answer is yes because they were dragged into the war by the aggressor states attacking them. (the question about the use of atomic weapons being justified is another matter)

Yes. It wasn't only necessary, it was unavoidable. Adolf Hitler would keep on expanding in Europe until the world is at his knees. Something must be done to stop him. Japan would still expand in Asia and the Pacific Ocean with or without Hitler, so one way or the other, World War Two would errupt.

World War Two was a global conflict which affected every major continent. The United States played a decisive role in this war, providing the weaponry and shipping which made victory for the Allies possible. There was little confusion about whether or not the war should be fought, after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Europe was occupied completely, except for the British Isles, and Japan had overrun the Pacific Basin, much of Asia, and China. Ultimately, the United States would have been forced to fight for its survival, no matter what happened. Considering the atrocities commited by the Japanese in China, and the pogrom against the Jews in Europe, the moral high ground involved stopping these governments from killing more people.

Because the bad guys were obvious to everyone, and they truly were bad men. They were so unacceptable to the allies, that the Allies gave them an ultimatum: Surrender or be DESTROYED!
