If by schooner you mean a generic windjammer--yes smaller ones were used by all of the forces for occasional military duties--as well as normal civilian uses of cargo and fishing. One or two were even made convoy escorts by the U.S. Navy.

Large clipper type ships were still in use. The main route was circumnavigating the world S. Africa, Australia, South America, and possibly the East Coast of N. America. This was a well established route following the prevailing winds and was relatively safe from submarines.
