If the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 had succeeded, it would have resulted in the assassination of King James I and the destruction of the Houses of Parliament, fundamentally altering the course of British history. This act could have sparked a major Catholic uprising in England, potentially leading to the establishment of a Catholic monarchy. The ensuing chaos might have intensified sectarian conflict, with far-reaching implications for governance, religion, and society in Britain and beyond. Additionally, it may have shifted the balance of power in Europe, affecting relations between Protestant and Catholic nations.
Because the US senate didnt approve of it. And the president had had a stroke so he couldn't sign it himself.

some people believe that he was behind the whole thing. it is said that he fed ideas throught lord monteagle in order to convince King James I that Catholics should be gotten rid of. it is also believed that he knew all along that the plot would fail because the gunpowder was in fact decayed, and therefore would never have blown up. when he was informed of the plot, he actually waited for a few days so it could thicken,m before moving in and arresting the conspirators.
Plan A of the Gunpowder Plot, led by Guy Fawkes and other conspirators, failed primarily due to a lack of secrecy and internal betrayal. A letter warning a key figure to stay away from Parliament was intercepted, prompting a search of the premises. This led to the discovery of Fawkes guarding the explosives in the cellar beneath the House of Lords on the night of November 5, 1605. The plot's exposure ultimately resulted in the arrest and execution of the conspirators.
