They looked for food, clothes , somewhere to live, and a way to make money. Basically, they seeked out ways to ajust to new life. This is why the freemans bureau came in. Some African Americans also became involved in politics and a part of the gorvernment in some way. ( Your Welcome!)

The secret group that terrorized Southern whites and blacks during the Reconstruction era was the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). They used intimidation, violence, and murder against both Black individuals and white allies who supported Reconstruction efforts. The biggest most resounding accomplishments for blacks during reconstruction were the adoption of Constitutional Amendments. These amendments were the 13th, 14th and 15th. Respectively they gave blacks, in order, abolition of slavery; guarantee of citizenship to the United States and granting civil rights and the right to vote.
