Depends which department you work for. Every department has their own requirements. Generally they are something like: -Be an EMT
-Be 18 years of age
-Have a good work ethic and be able to follow directions under pressure.
Some departments ask for more: -Go to a Fire Academy through a community college
-Be a paramedic
-Have an A.A. degree in Fire Science/Tech. If you are interested, go to your local fire station and knock on the door. I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving you a couple hints.

∙ 12y agoThis varies from state to state, Volunteer stations and paid stations, and also can vary by Rank/Job in the Department.
It is not easy and will require training, which you need to attend every chance you can. You will at least need MOD1 (or the Basic, name of this class changes from time to time). The MOD1/Basic course will take 4+ months in most places. Notice that you will need more than just firefighting courses, you will need Medical/First aid/First Responder training (all different courses) All depending on where you are and if you are Volunteer/Paid. You at the very least need First Aid training along with your courses.
