Atomic weapons played a major role in fear, but were never actually used in the Cold War. There were multiple instances in which the Soviet Union and United States threatened each other with atomic weapons, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, but overall no Atomic weapons were ever used on enemy countries which is how the Cold War stayed cold.
Nationalism did play an important role in the cold war. There are certain individuals who offered to work as spies for their countries.
It led the United States to offer weapons to extremist leaders who fought against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan
Technology advances hugely in every war. In WW2 it made better radio, radar, atomic weapons, faster fighters, bigger bombers, and better vehicles.
Korea was the FIRST "Limited War" (Vietnam was the SECOND) fought during the Cold War. Nuclear Weapons created the Cold War. A "Limited War" was fought with "limitations" on where the war would be fought and using only conventional weapons. Without Nuclear Weapons, the US/Allies would have probably invaded Red China, when Communist China entered the war. Which of course would have caused the Soviet Union to enter the war. Which naturally would have led to WW3. The Soviets tested their first Atomic Weapon in 1949.
Hephaestus crafted many of the weapons of the gods, but he also built protectors and other magnificent works.
It is the other way around, the use of the atomic bomb played a role in the weapons race.
The Atomic bomb created the cold war. Atomic weapons created the military stand-off. If Atomic weapons never existed there would have been a WWIII with the USSR/Red China...just like WWII, WWI, etc. etc. etc. The ONLY role the past played in the cold war...was creating it (the bomb).
As the name implies, the Cold War involved very little shooting. Infantry weapons played no substantial role. Hot wars, such as Vietnam and Afghanistan DID employ Infantry weapons.
No atomic bombs were used in the Korean War and there were never any plans to use them. Possibly the existence of atomic weapons had some small effect.
Those bombs served as a means to destroy Japans means to make war.
During the Cold War era, there is little doubt that the US and the USSR would have gone to war with each other, had they not feared the immense destruction that would have resulted from the use of atomic weapons, which both sides had.
The American people characterizes the role of America's possession of the atomic bomb in the origins of the Cold War.
After the atomic bombs Japan had no other choice.

The CIA actually offered military support, consisting in weapons.
