After World War I, several groups were feared due to the social and political upheaval that followed the war. Many people were wary of communists and socialists, especially in Europe, as the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia inspired fears of similar uprisings elsewhere. Additionally, there was a rising fear of radical political movements, including anarchists and fascists, as well as heightened xenophobia towards immigrants. Economic instability and the spread of disease also contributed to a general atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in many societies.

At the time, most people feared it would go nuclear. Most people in the US feared the communists (called the Red Scare) and greatly feared atomic war; WWII had only ended 5 years earlier and was still VERY FRESH in people's minds, they knew what total war was...nearly every human being that was over 5 years old remembered World War II...and World War III scared them! People thought that the "commies" (as they were then called) had to be stopped in Korea...but going nuclear, caused a lot of hesitation on how the war would be fought. The world was lucky with the Korean War, in that it turned out the way it did...no communist victory...a short war, three years...and no nukes! It could've been far worse!
