Well after World War II in Europe, Germany and its capital Berlin was divided into 4 sections under martial law governed by the World Powers on the Allies: France, Britain, USA, and USSR. Nazi war criminals were put on trial for crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg Trials. High ranking German officers that didn't commit suicide after the Russians captured Berlin (or even before) for the Holocaust (The Jewish genocide of which approximately 6 million Jewish people died). The Marshall plan was put into effect which gave aid to many European countries (that allied with the USA). The Russians also gave aid to some European countries as in their own program called COMECON (once again only to those that allied with Russia). The US and USSR then started to try and influence their own government upon the rebuilding European Countries. The USSR took a bold step in 1949 to extend its influence in Berlin and cut off West Berlin, (Controlled by France, Britain, and the US) until the democratic powers gave West Berlin to Russia. The democratic powers responded by initiating the Berlin airdrop, which dropped in supplies via airplane into the city. Reluctantly Russia gave up the siege, but later built the infamous Berlin Wall which cutoff people from traveling to West Berlin from East Berlin which was controlled by the Russian.

In Japan, after horrific waves of bombing and fire bombing, (which killed more people than both atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki) and the two atomic bombs, The US poured in relief to rebuild the cities, give medical attention, and completely reorganize the government. The relief plan went great according to how well the cities were rebuilt and government was restructured, but the people that survived the atomic bombings were scarred, and in many cases beyond recognition, and most soon died of radiation poisoning. The people were forever scarred mentally as well.

Little know fact: The Japanese killed twice as many Chinese as Germans killed Jewish. A much larger Genocide took place in China, but fewer Japanese officer and leaders were tried in court.

Remember, the history your books don't teach is much more important than what it does teach.
