Every able bodied (healthy) US male between the ages of 18 or (19) and 26 (depending upon the needs of the service) had to register for the draft. After registering, and upon receiving notice to report for induction in the military, you had to report. You were medically inspected, mentally tested (written test), then sent to basic training (boot camp). After boot camp, you were sent to advanced training in your assigned military duty (truck driver, tank crewman, artilleryman, infantryman, military policeman, clerk, medic, mechanic, aircraft repairman, engineer, radar operator, radio operator, etc.). After completing all of that, you were sent to your duty station; which could be in Korea, Germany (Europe), Alaska, anywhere in the US, or the Republic of South Vietnam.
