US Forces were initially deployed around the surrounding islands in the Pacific; the Philippines, Wake Island, Midway Island, and many islands in between. Strengthening airfields, reinforcing ammo/fuel depots, bunkers, defence systems, etc. Holding actions were fought by US Army, US Marines, and US Navy forces in the Pacific, while transports in the US East Coast tried to send war material to Great Britain to help fight it's war in Europe. After enough war material and reinforcements reached Great Britain, then war material and reinforcements began to trinkle into the Pacific, and the US launched counter-attacks beginning at Guadalcanal in '42. The US forces in the Pacific were there prior to Pearl Harbor attack. The first forces sent to Europe was the 1st and 34th Infantry Division and later the 1st Armored Division. They were sent to England for further training and landed in Casablanca, North Africa on 11 November 1942---the first time US units entered combat in Europe/Mediterranean area.
