Joseph Stalin ruled in the Soviet Union until his death in 1953. He was replaced by Georgy Malenkov for slightly less than two years. The line of succession included Nikita Khrushchev, Leonid Brezhnev, Yury Andropov, Constantin Chernenko & finally Mikhail Gorbachev.
