General Douglas MacArthur suggested this, resulting in President Harry Truman terminating MacArthur's military career on April 10, 1951 and replacing him with General Matthew Ridgway.
The Korean War began on June 25, 1950 and an armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. Note: Truman had already had 4 MK-4 fission bombs shipped to Korea but had not authorized their use (so when MacArthur threatened to use fission bombs he could havebut it would have been unauthorized).
No nuclear weapons were used in the korean war
Earthquakes, tidal waves & North Korean nuclear weapons.
- World War I Chinese stood by the Triple Entente. - World War II Chinese fought against Japanese invaders. - Korean War - Vietnamese War
Korea was the FIRST "Limited War" (Vietnam was the SECOND) fought during the Cold War. Nuclear Weapons created the Cold War. A "Limited War" was fought with "limitations" on where the war would be fought and using only conventional weapons. Without Nuclear Weapons, the US/Allies would have probably invaded Red China, when Communist China entered the war. Which of course would have caused the Soviet Union to enter the war. Which naturally would have led to WW3. The Soviets tested their first Atomic Weapon in 1949.
The Atomic Age created the cold war. With nuclear weapons, total wars (such as WW2) could no longer be fought. Only limited wars such as the Korean War and Vietnam Wars could be fought. Limited to only CONVENTIONAL weapons (Non-nuclear).
No nuclear weapons were used in the korean war
No nuclear weapons were used in the Korean War.....
Primarily for provocative statements he made, threatening the use of nuclear weapons against the Chinese and North Korean forces.
Not during the Korean war...
No their weapons are currently pointed at Seoul. The capital of South Korea
Many people in the US wanted to use nuclear weapons, other wise...don't fight the war at all!
The US chose NOT to deploy nuclear weapons. (The US did deploy nuclear weapons against Japan in WWII). The US chose NOT to invade North Vietnam. (The US did invade North Korea during the Korean War).
He knew that China was supporting North Korea, including actually sending Chinese troops into the fight. McArthur wanted to take the war into China but he was overruled by President Truman who was apprehensive of sparking a wider conflict, not unreasonable considering that WWII had ended just 5 years before the Korean War started.
Potential for nuclear war against the USSR in 1950.
That in the atomic age (atomic weapons) only limited wars can be fought. Nuclear weapons would mean total war.
Earthquakes, tidal waves & North Korean nuclear weapons.
"Korean Gettysburg," The battle at Wonju and Chipyong-ni showed that Ridgway's 8th Army could stand against the Chinese."
