These two countries were the "leaders", per se, of two opposing organisations: The Warsaw Pact, and NATO, respectively. This is incomplete. I highly recommend finding a better answer. It should be obvious that Russia is called Russia today; and not the USSR.
There were two hot battles that took place during the Cold War. The Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War were associated with the superpowers. The Cuban Missile Crisis was pretty key. The other was the Berlin Blockade.
