He sent messages to explain what was going on to the people in Mexico and the Alamo by Santa Ana, as one would in that day. Today we would use the phone, newspaper or the internet.
The Battle was more for the protection of the people of Mexico and the rights given to all men from their creator just as a few years earlier for the Colonies. Santa Anna had been forcefully taking from the people of Mexico, if they did not give all that he wanted they where either killed or they lost of their belongings.
What is not openly known is that this incident did much to save the people of Mexico, after the Mexican American war, many people of Mexico proud of the Americans that helped them moved to the north and named this American land New Mexico. This land would guarantee them the rights and freedoms they so longed and fought for.

No he did not die during the battle of the Alamo
The Battle of the AlamoThere was no "war" of the Alamo. There was a battle at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas in March of 1836. Sam Houston did not participate in this battle, although he was commander of the revolutionary forces at the time. While Col. William B. Travis and 186 other Texas revolutionaries stalled Santa Anna at the Alamo, Sam Houston was moving eastward across Texas, working to recruit and train an army to successfully defeat Santa Anna's forces. A few weeks after the fall of the Texan forces at the Alamo, Sam Houston's army met with Santa Anna's army and quickly defeated the Mexicans at a place called San Jacinto, just east of where present day Houston, Texas is now located.
Davy Crockett was killed during the Battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. He fought alongside the defenders of the Alamo and died defending the fort in San Antonio, Texas, during the Texas Revolution.
Joaquin Miller wrote "The Defence of the Alamo" in 1883. The poem reflects his admiration for the Texas heroes who fought at the Alamo during the 1836 battle. Miller, often called the "Poet of the Sierras," used the poem to convey themes of bravery and sacrifice.
The chief engineer of the Alamo who sent detailed descriptions of its defenses to Sam Houston was James Bowie. Bowie, known for his role in the Texas Revolution, provided critical information about the fortifications and the strategic situation at the Alamo. His communications helped inform Houston's decisions during the campaign against Mexican forces.
